About Us

A social cycling club based out of North Kansas City

Founded in 2020, the Velo Garage All Bike Club is more than just a cycling club—we’re a community of riders who love adventure, camaraderie, and advocacy. Based out of Velo Garage and Tap House in North Kansas City, we blend the joy of cycling with great company and post-ride pints.

We welcome riders of all levels, from casual cyclists to dedicated racers, and host a variety of rides to keep things exciting. Our weekly “Thirsty Thursdays” public ride is a local favorite, bringing cyclists together for a fun, social spin. We also organize monthly club rides for members and several cycling trips outside the Kansas City area each year, exploring new roads and trails beyond our city.

Beyond the ride, we’re passionate about making cycling safer and more accessible. We advocate for improved cycling infrastructure, rider safety, and a more bike-friendly community. Whether you’re looking to challenge yourself, connect with fellow cyclists, or support a better future for biking in Kansas City, you’ll find your place here. Join us and be part of something bigger—on and off the bike!

Our Board

Jared Swoboda

President

Jared has been an avid cyclist since 2015, when a friend convinced him to ride RAGBRAI—a decision that sparked a deep passion for cycling. Since then, he has embraced road, gravel, and mountain biking, enjoying the challenge of long-distance rides and the camaraderie of group cycling.
Jared has been organizing a RAGBRAI team since 2016, and 2025 will mark his 10th time riding across Iowa. His cycling accomplishments include riding in the prestigious Mallorca 312 fondo in 2024, climbing the legendary Sa Calobra, riding multiple century routes, enduring the grueling conditions of the Unbound Gravel 100 mudfest, and twice conquering the Gravel Worlds 75-mile course.
Whether riding on pavement, gravel, or single track, Jared thrives on pushing his limits and exploring new challenges. When he’s not in the saddle, he enjoys planning new adventures, fine-tuning bike setups, and sharing his love for cycling with others.

Ashley Scarlett

madam Secretary

Like many, Ashley remembers riding her bike everywhere as a kid whether it was to play at a friend’s house, hit the corner deli for post-school snacks or to the pool for practice. She continued to bike as a way to commute around KU (Rock Chalk!), but strayed from biking after graduation. Also like many, Ashley picked up biking again to stay active during the pandemic and started feeling comfortable riding to work and around KC, but was looking for others to ride with.
Through mutual friends they found Velo and have been a part of the community ever since. Ashley started to trade up for better and newer bikes as she continued to feel stronger and faster than a typical commuter. Through encouragement, Ashley started to ride longer and more often, eventually checking off her first century on her list. She continues to push herself for more PR’s and longer rides, which she thrives on. She has her sights set on a 200k soon! Through positive peer pressure, she started exploring mountain biking, but she has yet to warm to gravel riding…
Ashley is a huge advocate for women on bikes from all levels and loves to see women building more confidence on their bikes. She is also a big supporter of BikeMS. You might not see this vertically challenged rider, but you will certainly hear her at the bar or yelling out ‘HOLE’ on rides! Cheers!

Adam Sullivan

Treasurer

Adam got back into cycling as an adult towards the end of 2019 on a freebie hybrid given to him by a family member. About a year later he bought his first “real” bike, and the obsession really took off. After a few more months of riding solo and one big gravel event later, he was ready to find a group of friends to ride with. A quick search on social media landed on a chill-looking weekly group ride up in North KC at a place called Velo Garage and Tap House. He showed up on a Thursday night in July 2021 knowing no one and quickly fell in love with the community.
Since then, Adam has ridden his bikes all over the Midwest, up into the mountains of Colorado, and down south in Arkansas and Oklahoma. He enjoys big rides on road and gravel, as well as romping around KC with his buds. Velo Garage has become a second home, and riding bikes with friends brings him immense joy and fulfillment. He loves welcoming new folks into the fold on Thursday Night rides, route building and research, and volunteering his time leading group rides. Now, enough talk, let’s ride bikes!
